On May 21, 2024, Komnas HAM Indonesia conducted a significant visit to The Centre for Human Rights, Multiculturalism and Migration (CHRM2) at the University of Jember. The purpose of the visit was to socialize and explore potential collaborations for the upcoming “Kemah Generasi” (Youth Camp) program. This initiative, in line with Law No. 39 of 1999 on Human Rights, aims to cultivate a generation of Indonesian youth who are aware of and committed to human rights issues.
Scheduled for June 2024, the Youth Camp targets young Indonesians aged 18-22, including both students and non-students, as well as individuals with disabilities. Komnas HAM will fully fund 50 participants selected from across Indonesia, ensuring diverse representation. CHRM2 is expected to help select qualified candidates from the University of Jember to participate in this transformative program.
The primary objectives of the Youth Camp include preparing future leaders, leveraging Indonesia’s demographic bonus, and promoting wiser use of social media. Following the program’s introduction, a session was held to share experiences and discuss future collaboration opportunities between Komnas HAM and CHRM2, including potential integration with programs like “Merdeka Belajar.”
In addition to Jember, Komnas HAM’s socialization efforts extend to other areas in East Java, including Mojokerto, Surabaya, Malang, and Madiun, involving regions with a history of collaboration. This outreach emphasizes Komnas HAM’s commitment to fostering a nationwide network dedicated to human rights education and advocacy.
