In a reflection of the enduring legacy of Abdurrahman Wahid, or Gus Dur, the fifth Kedai Bineka Forum will convene on August 29, 2024, to discuss justice, minority rights, and multicultural citizenship. Gus Dur’s unwavering stance on defending the rights of minorities was driven by his deep commitment to the Constitution. As cited in Harian Kompas on May 23, 2008, Gus Dur believed that fighting for minority groups was a constitutional obligation. “They (minorities) just want to be treated as human beings. The 1945 Constitution guarantees protection for all citizens, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or culture. This is what I stand for,” he said. Yet, despite these guarantees, discrimination, violence, and injustice persist.
This forum, organized by UPT PKM UB, CCDS, OASE Institute, and Fikroh Nahdliyyah, these pressing issues will be addressed under the theme Justice, Minority Rights, and Multicultural Citizenship. The event will take place at Oase Cafe & Literacy from 7:00 to 9:00 PM WIB and will feature distinguished speakers, including Al Khanif, Ph.D., a lecturer at UNEJ and Director of CHRM2, with Destriana Saraswati of UPT PKM UB as the moderator. The forum will be hosted by Anindiya Ulhaq, with poetic readings by Nilam Andriani and musical performances by Ainurahman.
