From 7 to 10 October 2024, No Leprosy Remains (NLR) Indonesia organized an academic workshop for Research on Leprosy at Warmadewa University, Denpasar. NLR Indonesia invited the Centre for Human Rights, Multiculturalism, and Migration (CHRM2) University of Jember to be part of the event, sending two researchers, Prof Tantut Susanto and Dr. Al Khanif, as speakers. This event is designed for young lecturers around Indonesia who research leprosy from various perspectives, ranging from medicine and nursing to, sociology. 20 young researchers attended the event as participants.
Agus Wijayanto, the Director of NLR Indonesia, asserts that the event is a continuation of a partnership between CHRM2 and NLR after the multi-stakeholder forum organized in East Java Province last September. Both parties agreed to expand the partnership in the future, mainly regarding how the local governments in Indonesia can adopt policies not only to eliminate leprosy but also to ensure that people affected by leprosy can access their basic rights such as the right to work, health, education, and other fundamental rights for better living.
