Nicholas Leone (Research Fellow) is an MA candidate in Migration and Refugee Studies at the American University in Cairo, specializing in border regimes in the Balkans, particularly in Bosnia, Serbia, and Kosovo, with a focus on migrant agency and EU border policies. He has worked extensively with NGOs in Sudan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Bosnia, supporting refugee legal aid, coordinating aid efforts, and conducting field research. Additionally, Nicholas has experience in refugee resettlement in the United States, where he facilitated community integration and support for displaced individuals. His work bridges academic inquiry and practical engagement, emphasizing transnational solidarity and migrant empowerment.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Legal Adviser, St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (October 2024-Present)
    – Assisted the Refugee Legal Aid Program (RLAP) in providing legal support to refugees and asylum seekers in Egypt seeking Refugee Status Determination (RSD) from the UNHCR
    – Conducted legal needs assessments and provided full representation in refugee status determination and
    resettlement cases
    – Handled intake inquiries, advising on UNHCR rejection letters, registration issues, and appeals processes.
    – Supported clients with preparing evidence and documentation to strengthen their cases for status determination Conduct literature reviews, analyze data, and collaborate on academic papers and presentations under Dr. Daniel Saucedo.
  • Writing Center Fellow , Ritsumeikan International Center (2022–2024)
    – Organized over 10 international exchange events, boosted participation through advertising campaigns, and created interactive language and cultural exchange activities.
