Book Title: Critical Human Rights Issues in Southeast Asia

Concept Note

Since 2016, the Centre for Human Rights, Multiculturalism and Migration (CHRM2), University of Jember in Indonesia organized annual conference on human rights with reference to human rights issues in Southeast Asia. In the last four years, CHRM2 has succeeded in inviting scholars and practitioners around the world to share ideas and knowledge in the event. As part of the commitment to share knowledge and ideas, CHRM2 also provides Journal of Southeast Asian Human Rights (JSEAHR) as an academic platform for young scholars to publish their ideas.

Since the 3rd annual conference, CHRM2 tried to expand the publication platform to accommodate more authors to publish their article. The CHRM2 then initiated this edited book as a new platform of publication that will be submitted to Routledge. To achieve this objective, Dr Al Khanif from the CHRM2 invited Dr Khoo Ying Hooi from the University of Malaya as a co-editor to collect, select and proceed the call for chapters. We believe the collaborative partnerships between the two institutions can enhance and enrich the exchange of knowledge in relation to human rights issues in the region.

The aim of this edited book is to reflect on the critical human rights issues in Southeast Asia. We are especially looking for contributions in the following countries: Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Brunei.
