CHRM2

On December 19, 2024, CHRM2 research fellows Wendy Zhou and Skaidra Pulley visited human rights lawyer and activist Nursyahbani Katjasungkana and Dutch author Saskia Wieringa. During the visit, the fellows had the chance to engage with young English learners at Komunitas Putera Pertiwi, a community center established by Katjasungkana and Wieringa which serves the population of Parelegi, a small village in the Pasuruan Regency.

The English class was followed by a discussion of the fellows’ current research projects in Indonesia, as well as the experiences of the notable activist and prolific academic, both of whom shared personal stories from their decades-long advocacy work in Indonesia. Both Zhou and Pulley came away feeling very grateful for the chance to speak with such influential figures, highlighting the strength of CHRM2’s network within the Indonesian human rights community.
