CHRM2

Invigorated by the success of its 4th Annual International Conference on Human Rights, CHRM2 convened its fourth workshop in partnership with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD).  The focus for the fourth workshop was post-legislative scrutiny. The workshop bridged local, national, and international perspectives with participants from the Ministry of Home Affairs, regional parliaments, civil society organisations (CSOs), and academics.

The workshop opened on October 16th with remarks from Agus Wijayanto, the WFD Indonesia Country Representative, followed by presentations on post-legislative scrutiny led by Franklin De Vreize, the WFD London Senior Governance Adviser; Dr. Rozi Beni of the Ministry of Home Affairs; and Dr. Widodo of Tenaga Ahli Badan Legislasi DPR-RI. Wijayanta and CHRM2’s own Dr. Al Khanif led the workshop through question-and-answer sessions throughout the day. The second day of the workshop gave participants the opportunity to apply their new skills and knowledge of post-legislative scrutiny through role-playing exercises in which they addressed discriminatory local legislation.

CHRM2’s ongoing partnership with WFD, which has seen numerous workshops in Indonesia and an international conference in Yangon, Myanmar, furthers both organisations’ shared commitment to advancing local solutions to transnational issues. By engaging social and political representatives in dialogue and training, the partnership’s efforts ensure that all actors work together to address Indonesia’s most critical challenges.
