On September 29, 2024, the Universitas Gadjah Mada Alumni Community (KAGAMA) in Jember held a celebratory event to honor the achievements of its community. One of the event’s notable attendees was Skaidra, a fellow who participated for the first time in learning the traditional Indonesian art of karawitan (gamelan music).
During the gathering, Skaidra served as a backup vocalist, performing in the style of a sinden (traditional Javanese female singer). Later, she was given the opportunity to try playing the gamelan, which marked a significant step in her journey to learn this complex and culturally rich musical tradition. Having already participated in two practice sessions, Skaidra expressed her enthusiasm for continuing her gamelan lessons while staying in Jember.
The event not only celebrated the success of the KAGAMA community but also showcased the vibrant cultural exchange and learning fostered within the alumni network.
