The Centre for Human Rights, Multiculturalism and Migration (CHRM2) University of Jember held an online workshop on Post-Legislative Scrutiny on 25th February 2021 with reference to enhance participation of women in politics. The theme of the workshop is “Monitoring and Reviewing Laws of Women Rights in Politics in Indonesia”. Both academics and practitioners are invited to enrich the discussion such as Dr. Tedi Sudrajat from Law Faculty of Jenderal Soedirman University, Fajlurrahman Jurdi from Law Faculty of Hasanuddin University, Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, Ph.D. from Law Faculty of Gajah Mada University, Hurriyah from University of Indonesia, and Dr. Kunti Tridewiyanti from University of Pancasila. While speakers from the practitioners are Titi Anggraini from Perkumpulan Untuk Pemilu dan Demokrasi (Perludem), Mike Verawati Tangka from Koalisi Perempuan Indonesia, Agil Oktaryal from PSHK, and Wahidah Suaib from Maju Perempuan Indonesia.
The workshop is part of the research scheme by CHRM2 funded by the Conservative Party, United Kingdom and Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) Indonesia. The main objective of this research is to examine the existing legislation that hinder women to get position in the government. The research is significant because women have significant role since the independence until now but unfortunately in the last two decades, women still have minimum rights compared with the rights of men. Laws in Indonesia still have not protect women participation in politics because women participation in politics is very minimal. Therefore, this workshop is expected to give insights on how the government should protect women rights.
